How to safeguard your investment during the holidays
Jingle Bells – or alarms
This first one might not surprise you, but it will surprise those sneaky burglars! Unfortunately, there is often an uplift in crime around the holidays. Adding a security alarm and/or cameras can make thieves think twice before they invite themselves into your home. They know that there are often expensive gifts and items under the tree or in the home during this period and people may be away from Hawke’s Bay for a few days.
Top tip, these additions may also lower your insurance costs!
Check your (maintenance) list twice
Slip, slop, slap, and wrap your home – preparing for the damaging summer climate. Summer in Hawke’s Bay can mean heavy rain and thunderstorms and strong UV rays. Make sure gutters are clear, ready for the rain. UV window film or sun shades can help prevent fading on carpets, wood floors and curtains and is well worth the investment. Insects including ants and cockroaches come alive during the summer months so get out the spray, you’re gonna need it.
Reindeer Damage
We all love the sparkle that the Christmas season brings via outdoor lights, tinsel and live trees. But keep in mind that nails used for decorations and lights can damage walls or decks. You may want to think about gifting your tenants’ non-damaging plastic hooks that they can use for their holiday decorations. You can also provide a durable piece of plastic for placement under real trees to prevent warping or staining the floor from watering. The same thing goes for carpet to prevent stains and mould.
